In the early ’70s, a project of historic significance was underway
Old Sydney Town was created near Gosford, as a living museum
Bringing our colonial past to life
Using authentic construction methods, it became a window into Australia’s past
A place where you could step back in time and experience Sydney’s streets and harbour in the early 1800s
But some true history was also nearby
Our News Crew captured the remnants of the Great North Road at Wisemans Ferry
A sandstone cave with steps and a bench cut into the rock…a silent reminder of our convict era
And a little further along the Great North Road stands the village of Wollombi
The Courthouse, built in 1866, was given a second life as a museum in 1972
Opened by Professor, A.P Elkin along with local identity Harold Sternbeck, the museum would become a sanctuary to house the memories of Wollombi locals.. keeping their history alive
